Dr. Stephanie Wood-Garnett is president of the Institute for Student Achievement (ISA), a national non-profit organization focused on improving equity, access, and opportunities for underserved students. Under her leadership, ISA has deepened its work with states, districts, and schools to improve procedures that impact equity and the social, emotional, and academic development of students K-12. An accomplished educator, Dr. Wood-Garnett, has extensive experiences in leading complex P–20 education reform initiatives. Before joining ISA, she was vice president of Policy to Practice at the Alliance for Excellent Education and was the assistant commissioner of teacher and leader effectiveness for the New York State Education Department, where she played a pivotal role in leading Race to the Top initiatives. She also served as a central office administrator in the State of Washington and the District of Columbia and was the director of the Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Wood-Garnett holds a bachelor's degree in English literature from Dartmouth College, a master’s in higher education administration from George Washington University, and a doctorate in educational and organizational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania.
